What's so special?

What made it literally rose to fame and made it so special is the fact that it is the largest rainforest in the world! It is home to many species of animals, insects and even human beings! Due to its large population of trees, it helps to regulate the amount of oxygen and makes it at an equal rate with carbon dioxide. Unfortunately, the level of oxygen in the world is decreasing steadily but without the Amazon Rainforest, it would have been worst. So that's why the Amazon rainforest is so amazing and special!^^

Who lives there?

Honestly, right now, less people live in the Amazon. But do you noe that few 100 years ago, many Indians lived in the Amazon. Most lived along rivers, where canoes made transportation easy. Many died from diseases brought to South America by European explorers and colonists. Others died after being enslaved.

Today, there are fewer Indians in the Amazon than there were 500 years ago. So in conclusion on this topic, there are actually people living in the Amazon Region.

Climate

The climate in the Amazon rainforest is like that of any other typical tropical rainforest. It is hot and humid. There aren't many seasonal changes in the climate and the temperature too remains the same for pretty much of the year.

In fact the difference between the day and night temperatures is greater than the difference between any two seasons. The weather remains the same all year long. It is exactly like Singapore's weather. It is either rain or shine.

One difference: It rains almost the whole year in the Amazon forest. But two seasons can be defined for the sake of clarity as the rainy season and the not-so-rainy season.

The rainy seasons are about 60-180 inches while in the non-rainy seasons, the rains may be between 30-100 inches. The rain stops or starts very suddenly.

About the Amazon Rainforest/ Location in the World

The Amazon Rainforest can be known as Amazonia or Amazon Jungle. It is a forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America. The rainforest covers most of the Amazon Basin as the Basin is 1.7 billion acres while the rainforest is 1.4 billion acres. This forest is so big that 9 countries has territory in it.

It includes:

- Brazil

- Peru

- Columbia

- Venezuela

- Ecuador

- Bolivia

- Suriname

- French Guiana

Brazil takes up most of the Amazon Rainforest. It takes up 60% of it while Peru takes up 13%, leaving the rest of the countries with only small amounts of the land. Amazon became a member of 'New 7 Wonders of the World' in 2008.

Amazon was also ranked first place in Group E in 2009. Group E is a category for forests, national parks and nature reserves. Bravo for Amazon!!!
